Project Details
Veneklasen Construction was proud to partner with Owen-Ames-Kimball and Rockford Public Schools to bring their vision for a modern, functional bus garage to life. This project was unique in many ways, from its extended pre-construction timeline to its innovative design choices. Initially quoted a year and a half before breaking ground, the project required careful planning and adaptability to account for market fluctuations and evolving needs.
- The new Rockford Public Schools bus garage plays a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable student transportation for the district. Serving as a central hub for bus maintenance, storage, and operations, this facility supports the daily transit of thousands of students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and community events. This garage extends the lifespan of district vehicles, reduces maintenance costs, and improves overall efficiency.
- What sets this bus garage apart is its combination of aesthetics, functionality, and innovation. The two-tone panel scheme offers a visually dynamic exterior that elevates the building’s appearance beyond the typical industrial-style garage.
- Another unique feature is the ThermoDeck roof insulation system combined with a painted roof. This system helps optimize climate control inside the facility, making it more energy-efficient and comfortable for staff working inside.
The project stands as a testament to our ability to adapt, innovate, and deliver tailored solutions that meet both practical and aesthetic goals. By incorporating features we don’t normally use, we pushed our own boundaries and created a facility that is both highly functional and visually impressive.
This project was honored with a 2025 Varco Pruden Hall of Fame Award in the Government category.
